Healthy Eating
We promote healthy eating habits at our school that are suited to each child’s individual needs.
Our students have a range of complex and individual needs, conditions and health considerations. Many require tube feeding, assisted eating support, or have allergies, strict dietary requirements, or ASD-related food preferences.
Because each student’s dietary needs are highly individual, all students bring their own lunch and play-lunch to school. This ensures food choices align with their specific requirements and familiar home routines.
Across the school, we run a variety of programs to encourage healthy eating habits. Our Garden to Plate programs educate students about the origins of quality food through hands-on experiences in our school garden. Fruit Friday promotes the healthy consumption of fruit and dietary fibre. Each class has dedicated morning tea and lunch times each day, providing opportunities to practise food skills and build positive routines and habits around eating. Breakfast programs operate at various times throughout the year to ensure participating students have a positive start to the day. Cooking programs across grades support the development of daily living skills, food knowledge, and kitchen skills.
Special events, celebrations and multicultural days ensure that even fussy eaters are gently exposed to new food experiences, with food used as a meaningful part of valued occasions throughout the year.
